To make a holiday porch pot with fresh greenery, clean out your flower pots or buy new flower pots, we recommend 12” diameter or larger). Keep the existing potting soil or add enough soil to fill to the top. Purchase bundles of cut greens like spruce, cedar, and pine. Cut stems and stick in the soil until the pot is full. Add in accessories like ornament balls, berry stems, and pinecones to create the look you want.

If DIY is not your thing, you can stop into Wallace’s, pick up a ready-made porch pot, and cross outdoor decorating off your To-Do list.

Decorating Your Live Greenery

Coordinate with Your Planters

To tie your outdoor holiday decor and planters together, coordinate the accessories of both to match along with your wreaths, swags, and boughs. This can be easily achieved by solidifying a color scheme and adding hints of it into your front porch planters, fence posts, and stairway railing. Decorating your shrubs and trees with matching ornaments and lights to coordinate with your front door wreath, bough, or swag would look especially beautiful.

Your decor isn’t complete without some holiday shine! Complete your fresh greenery ensemble with Christmas lights, vintage holiday bells, ribbons, bows, and other ornaments. You can choose a rustic farmhouse theme or go for an elegant gold and silver look.  You can never go wrong with traditional red!

Tweak your greenery decor to your taste. The key is to make a wreath look as full as possible, as more really is more here! This checklist will help your wreath look abundant:

-Attach ornaments to add color and shine

-Include twigs and other organic materials like pinecones, red dogwood branches, and ornamental grasses

-Incorporate a lighting fixture like string lights or mini lanterns

-Welcome your guests with a hand-painted wooden sign hanging from your wreath or bough

-Once you’re all done, wrap up and reward yourself with a fresh cup of eggnog

Keep Your Live Evergreen Decor Fresh

Make sure to mist your evergreens often, and keep them protected from heat and sunlight as much as possible to keep them fresh. Using LED lights with your evergreens is a better choice as they are more temperature-controlled than other options. Place lit candles far away from the area where they will be used if you are using them to decorate indoors.
