Cranberry Bacon Green Beans

Cranberry Bacon Green Beans

A simple 5-step side dish that brings a meal together.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans, ends trimmed
  • 4 bacon strips, chopped
  • 1 medium yellow or sweet onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add green beans and cook for 6 to 10 minutes, depending on how soft you want them.Drain and place in a large bowl of ice water. (You can skip this step, but it helps keep there bright green color.)
  2. Cook bacon in a large nonstick skillet until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
  3. Cook the onion in the bacon grease until soft, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Add the soy sauce, cranberries, maple syrup, salt and pepper to the skillet. Add the green beans and stir to coat the green beans.
  5. Transfer to a bowl or serving platter and sprinkle with bacon.
